Bill's Goals
Bill Peard has a stellar record of performance - and progressive results - on behalf of Waukee and its citizens from 1998 through today. And he's looking forward to building on those results over the next two years.
During Bill's tenure, Waukee has moved from being a small, rural town to one of the fastest-growing suburban communities in the Midwest. We've enjoyed responsible, smart growth with the growing pains that communities usually experience in similar situations. Bill's past performance has put Waukee squarely on a strong foundation for the future. As Bill is fond of saying, "The reason you build a great foundation is to put something even better on top of it."
With that in mind, Bill has set forth these a clear set of goals under a focused philosophy:"It's important to me that we continue to improve Waukee's quality of life without raising taxes. This is how we will accomplish our goals together."
Bill's goals for the next term are:
Economic Development:
- Continue to move the Alice's Road Overpass and Corridor Project forward to maintain and expand Waukee's economy.
- Keep our downtown master plan moving in the right direction.
- Continue to build on the early success of the Waukee Leadership Institute.
Efficient, effective government
- Continue to identify and implement best management practices that make city government and city services more efficient and responsive to the public's needs.
Environment
- Bill participated as a member of "The Green Initiatives Committee" commissioned by the council to help do our part in creating a sustainable community without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Fiscal responsibility
- Keeping a great thing going by building on 10 consecutive years in which Waukee has not levied a single property tax increase.

Infrastructure
- Continuing to anticipate and meet the community's growing infrastructure needs.
- Maintaining the city's partnership with the Waukee Community School District to provide appropriate infrastructure support.
Public safety
- Anticipate and fulfill any increased public safety needs.
Public involvement
- Always listening and responding to constituents.
- Continuing to seek more and new ways for citizens to provide their input into Waukee's government and future direction.
Recreation
- Build on our successes in providing diverse recreational opportunities to Waukee by moving forward with the Copeland Recreation Complex master plan.
Leadership
- Continue to provide problem-solving, results-oriented leadership to put the city's comprehensive plan into action.
- Continue to work with individual citizens, neighborhood groups, neighboring communities, Dallas County, state and federal officials to keep Waukee on the path of smart growth while protecting its friendly small-town feel.
- Continue to provide day-to-day direction for city government and take responsibility for its results.
- Always respond to the people of our community.
